Background


The Statement of Government Intentions (2001) is an expression of the Government’s commitment to “strong and respectful relationships between government and community, voluntary and iwi/Māori organisations”.

The Framework for Relations between the Ministry of Health and Health/Disability Non-Government Organisations(2002) is a statement of the commitment of the Ministry of Health and health/disability non-government organisations to put the Government's vision into practice.

The Framework was endorsed at the first forum held by the Ministry of Health and the NGOs, in March 2002, and the NGO Working Group was elected to progress issues and plan future NGO-Ministry of HealthForums.

The Forums provide the opportunity to discuss key issues for the NGO sector and to share these with the Ministry and stakeholders. They set the ‘agenda’ of work for the NGO Working Group.
